MIDYEAR MEETING RECAP
PHILADELPHIA, PA
APRIL 19-23, 2006
The Board of Directors welcomed members to Philadelphia, PA for the Midyear Meeting of Legal Secretaries International Inc. Even though the Board was the official host, Cindy Hahn acted as local meeting chair and she did a great job. Thanks, Cindy J
The official tour to Valley Forge, PA, on Thursday was canceled, but many members took advantage of the wonderful weather to take in the Philadelphia sites on the upper level of a double-decker tour bus. We had a full house for the Dutch-treat dinner at the hotel on Thursday night.
Director of Certification, Edwina Klemm, administered two certification exams on Friday.
David Glebe, Esquire, and Margot Millar, Office of Disciplinary Counsel for the Supreme Court of the State of Delaware, kicked off the first seminar session on Friday morning with a presentation on ethics. Our very own Edwina Klemm and Carol Wilson followed with their ethics presentation given in Argentina. We changed topics for the next session and heard about eminent domain from Richard Abbott, Esquire (Cindy Hahn's boss). Nancy Huber, Henderson Legal Services, followed with a presentation on LiveNote. Michael Sangemino, Esquire, and Stephanie Cappabianca, Wachovia Bank, N.A., spoke on the administrative aspect of probating estates.
The stuffed animals for our Leave a Legacy program were presented to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.
President Sally Jarvis called the business meeting to order on Saturday. Bylaw and Standing Rule amendments (printed in the April issue of Briefly Speaking ) were passed. Mary Frances Klein reported on the October 2006 Annual Meeting in Louisville, KY; Shirley Vanderbeck reported on the 2007 Midyear Meeting in Ontario, CA; and Carol Wilson reported on the 2007 Annual Meeting in Nashville, TN. Legal Professionals of Connecticut won the bid to host the 2008 Annual Meeting in Hartford, CT. The Board announced its recommendation that, beginning in 2008, we go to one meeting a year; that meeting being the Annual Meeting in September or October of each year. The issue will be well publicized so that everyone will have an opportunity to vote on the issue, either in person or by proxy, at the 2006 Annual Meeting in Louisville, KY.
Teresa Brown and Edwina Klemm put their PowerPoint skills to use once again and presented a program from the 10 th Anniversary Meeting held in Houston, TX, in October 2005. The program contained many photos from the meeting set to songs such as Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys, Macarena; We're All in This Together, and Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Fun is what we had! The hospitality room rocked!!
First and foremost, a HUGE thank you to our affiliates and members who took out patron ads in the meeting program! This is a wonderful way for everyone, but especially those unable to attend a meeting, to show their support! We would also like to thank the following sponsors and exhibitors.
